At a young age of 16, Junsu participated in the 6th Annual Starlight Casting System which led him to be casted by SM Entertainment and eventually becoming the first member to be recruited into TVXQ.

Junsu was supposed to debut earlier but experienced a difficult time due to breaking of his voice which caused a delay in his debut day. Finally, Junsu managed to debut together with Jaejoong, Yoochun, Yunho and Changmin at the Boas and Britney Spears showcase on 26 December 2003. His stage name was Xiah as he wanted to be a star not only in Korea but in all of Asia.

The member responsible for the cute image was supposed to be Maknae Changmin but Changmin said that Junsu stole his concept from him. HAHA.
